SMELL ME, SMELL ME NOW!

I was invited to have a fragrance consultation at The Perfume Shop this week, and as I’ve been a bit promiscuous with my scents recently I thought it would be a great opportunity to find my new signature scent.

Traditionally, I find a scent and stick with it so people know that’s my smell, and then if too many people copy me I will move away from it. This happened most recently with Viktor and Rolf’s FlowerBomb.

As I’m getting older, I am moving towards heavier fragrances and so I was a bit lost in terms of direction. I discussed all of this with Berni in-store who talked through my ideas about what I wanted before selecting three different perfumes to try. We talked about how I love orangey scents and was looking for what she explained was a more oriental than sweet floral scent – but not so heavy and oriental that it ages me.

She proposed Boss Orange, DKNY and the new fragrance from Dolce & Gabanna; Desire. Each one was first sprayed onto a card for me to see if I liked them, after which top choices are tried on the skin. Desire was an easy winner for me so I only tried that on my skin, it’s got the right mix of deeper tones plus the fruity scents I love.

Berni recommended layering a fragrance with it’s matching bath and body products where possible to get the best possible effect, although they didn’t have these in stock yet I will certainly be keeping an eye out for them.

If you’re in need of inspiration for your fragrance wardrobe I would definitely recommend heading to The Perfume Shop for some expert advice.

So, here’s the low-down on my new fragrance of choice…
